What I Do

I am a Clinical Pharmacist for the Gateshead Inner West Primary Care Network.

How I Support Patients

A GP pharmacist is an individual who provides pharmaceutical services within a GP practice. They work in a similar way to other pharmacists, although there are some differences to working in a GP practice compared to a retail or hospital setting. For instance, GP pharmacists usually interact with doctors and nurses more frequently than retail pharmacists. They have a complementary role to healthcare practitioners, ensuring patients get the necessary medication and care to get better. A pharmacist working at a GP practice has the same requirements as any other pharmacist, which means being on the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) register and having a Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree. This also entails going through relevant training and passing an examination prior to registration. Pharmacists working in GP practices typically have good customer service and collaboration skills, in addition to knowledge of medicine, pharmacology and related subjects.
